Which Sometimes Ignored Straightforward Action May Make The Difference Between Job Interview Success And Failure?

Hi, as a pro recruiter I usually try and encourage my candidates to use a number of essential techniques to help make certain they increase their interview success rate.

Among the most effective techniques is to always follow up every job interview with an interview follow up thank you email addressed from you for your interviewer. At the most basic level this just must thank them for their time and the courtesy extended to you on your trip to their company.

Straightforward, right...

Well, less than 50% of job hunters invest time to thank their interviewer following the interview.

Is this a job interview destroying blunder?

Probably not on its own, but it is a missed opportunity to stay ahead of the competition, to show that you are someone who will go the extra mile, and if you are more marketing savvy; you have also missed the opportunity to represent some of the benefits your recruitment may offer the job interviewer.

Being a recruiter, a middle man, or agent in the recruitment process, it is not truly necessary for job hunters that I interview to send me an interview follow up thank you email. Nevertheless occasionally someone takes the time and hassle to send me a pleasant thank you for my time and effort email.

And it makes no difference how they might have performed at interview; their straightforward action of mailing me an interview thank you e mail makes me feel better. It is a proven mental reaction; humans like to receive thanks for something they have done.

I at this moment feel as if I now owe them something for carrying out something easy that they did not have to do. Sounds silly, but it is true, I am going to as a consequence attempt to pay them back in someway for his or her additional efforts.

Perhaps I am a freak and react differently to other folks; but I do not think so, though I do not suggest you have to give thanks to every recruiter that you meet (although perhaps you should get them more on your side?), but please send your interviewer a thank you e-mail after every job interview.

Personally, I feel a post interview thank you email is fine, as opposed to mailing a hand written letter. This is my opinion, and I understand others disagree, and would point out a hand written job interview thank you letter displays even more effort, which I accept it does. I personally think it may be a little to formal, or old fashioned for our present times.

My suggestion is mail your job interviewer a post job interview thank you e-mail, on the evening of your interview, in order that it can be waiting for them in their in box first thing following day.
